Q. How long does it take to complete my course?
A. Some students finish in under 6 weeks, others take several months, depending on the time they have to give to the course.
Q. Do I have to follow any additional licensure regulations once I get my certificate?
A. Every State has different regs, if you want to bill and collect independently of your customers, the courses cover this in detail. However, if you bill under the umbrella of your client's practice, provider number or hospital (recommended), you can start immediately just with your PSU cert, which also is all you need for your business license in most Cities. Some do not require this if your business is home based.
Q. How long does it take for my course to arrive, and what is the process?
A. Your course comes as a download or email attachment (depending on your ISP), within two business days of your order. There is an exam included with your course(s), which you email back to receive your cert. There is no residency requirement (you do not have to attend in person), and the course is compatible with all computers.
Q. If I buy the optional business disc, do I need any other software?
A. Yes, you will need to choose an additional billing program that depends on the specialities you intend to bill for. This is covered in the courses, and is offered by many third party sellers, some on a monthly lease basis. Some give discounts to PSU grads, but we do not require that you buy from them or anyone else. In addition, we strongly recommend that you join a billing gateway if your customers do not have their own, although many do, and this also is optional. Your course and the optional business disc have info on all the other items, including ratings on which tools are easy to use.
Q. Does my course help with business as well as the billing info itself?
A. All PSU courses are designed for those who would like to start their own businesses and practices, so yes, there is a significant amount of material in every course relating to the business and financial success aspects of your billing practice. Our grads are so successful, so fast, due to the demand, that most are turning down clients due to demand once the word is out about their service.
Q. Can I do this even if I don't have a lot of experience? How much do I have to know about computers? Do I need a College Degree?
A. All you need is a High School Degree and any home computer. The course includes everything you need to understand the billing process, medical terminology, coding, and working with your customers. No specific computer experience is required, because most software today is based on a "browser based interface," which means that if you can surf the web, you can work the software. Specific training also is included from the third party vendor when you use their software, as well as support from your PSU advisor by email.
Q. What is the advantage of taking the more advanced courses?
A. It is an indication of the seriousness of your commitment to your business and your customers. When you realize that you can begin making over $400 a day right away, why would you not want every piece of information to become the best you can be, as soon as possible? Over 85% of our grads eventually take all three courses. If you order the most advanced course, it includes the other two for no additional cost, as PSU is here for your professional AND financial success! If you scrimp here, you are scrimping on YOURSELF! Think about the savings compared to other courses that can take 2 years, and cost $50,000 or more! As far as getting started, however, the $99 biller course is all you need to begin right away, and you can always upgrade later for just the difference, never the whole price.
Q. How do my transcripts work?
A. Unlike other Colleges, PSU transcripts are always unlimited, and always free. Others charge from $100 to $200 EACH for transcripts! Once your certificate is received, your transcripts become active once you return your final exam.
Q. Your prices are awesome for an accredited program, are there other graduation or matriculation fees?
A. NO, NEVER. What you see is what you get, one price, no hidden charges.
Q. I noticed a shipping fee, but this is an online/ email course. What is the shipping for?
A. Your ship link remains active until course completion, at which time your certificate is sent to your Paypal address of record (the address you put down when you order). If you used a spouse's email or Paypal account, be sure to let us know your name for your certificate.
Q. Do I have to understand health insurance before I start?
A. No experience is needed in either health insurance or medicine, as your course covers all medical, insurance and billing details in depth. The secret is that most of the claims you get from your customers already have most of the work done! The office or hospital has already captured assignment of benefits (AOB), presenting code (ICD), copays, deductibles, etc. As an extension of your client's office, you are helping patients at a time of need, by moving many of their expenses to their insurance. You also will be helping by taking credit cards, managing payment plans, and many other helpful services. You can feel good about what you are doing, will be helping others, and still be your own boss.
Q. Do I have to work certain hours, or go to my customer's office?
A. Most billers work exclusively at home, are their own boss, and work the hours they want. You can choose how much business you take, and ramp up quickly or slowly. In addition to practices and hospitals, billers also work for Dentists, Chiropractors, Opthamologists, Anesthesiologits, Therapists, other billing companies, clinics, medical device companies, imaging centers, overflow work from big companies, and hundreds more. The paperwork is usually mailed to you weekly from each customer.
